I went through a little phase in high school, where my friends would have me cut their hair for them. I really had no experience with cutting boy's hair, but I agreed and actually could do a pretty good job. Now when my husband asked me to cut his hair it was a whole different story. I felt more pressure to do a good job, & I really cared about doing a good job. I kind of thought he was just kidding until he showed up at our house with hair cutting supplies and I knew he was serious. I had never used a buzzer before & I was pretty nervous to!
Excuse our messy mirror... We've had workers cleaning up a part of our basement that flooded, & well, I haven't gotten around to cleaning it.
Even though it took me about three times longer than a usual haircut, it turned out pretty good!
Then again, Taylor could be bald & still look like a million bucks.
Last night, I went to the festival of trees. My mom, sister & I have gone every year for as long as I can remember. I danced at it when I was little, & worked in the scone & cinnamon roll shop for years when I was a teenager. This year, my brother and sister came with all their kids! Although it made it super crazy, it was so fun being all together, especially before my brother and his family move to Illinois. Going there really got me into the Christmas spirit!
We spent our Thanksgiving week in Denver with Taylor's dad's side of the family. We stayed in a hotel, but spent the majority of our time at his aunt's house. Despite the fact I took nearly zero pictures & the 8.5 hour car ride, we had a great time! It was fun to be with the Meeks, meeting some I hadn't before. I also loved this Thanksgiving reunion was the first time the family had been all together in almost seven years! We spent our week eating, of course, (you better believe I got my fill of my mother-in-law's amazing sugar cookies) watching football, playing hours and hours of every card game you can imagine, shopping, & just hanging out. I did a minimal amount of homework & got to relax all week. It was a great week off of school, just prepping me for Christmas break- just around the corner! It can't come soon enough.
I love this time of year, & especially Thanksgiving because it offers such a great opportunity to reflect on all of my blessings. I have, with out a doubt, been blessed beyond belief in my life, & especially this year. I have been privileged enough to marry my best friend.
Words cannot express how much I love this guy & feel so lucky that he is mine forever! I am so grateful for him & all he does for me everyday. He cooks me meals on my long days of school or work. He cleans our house & does the dishes more often than not. He always finds some way to make my day special whether it's funny text messages or bringing me flowers. I love that he likes what I like, or pretends to, & gets excited about what I get excited about. I love how happy & positive he is, always setting the best example of not letting little things ruin your day. I'm grateful that our life is always full of funny things & excitement. There's never a dull moment with Taylor. His sporadic dance parties & lyrics changed in all songs he listens to make life so hilarious and fun. I'm the most 'me' when I'm with him, he makes me the person I want to be.
I promise I'm almost done with wedding posts... It's just so fun to go back and relive the most perfect day over & over again! Here's our wedding video, made by Caitlyn Cutler. I don't know how to upload a video from vimeo on here... But you can go to the link & watch our video if you want!:
Last weekend, we had a little getaway with four of Taylor's friends & their wives. We went to the cabin that we went to for our honeymoon, & I think it's so cool we can go back there whenever we want. It was nice to get away and just relax. We played a lot of card games & speed scrabble. The boys got to go shoot guns & be boys (whatever that entails), while the girls got to finally have some good girl talk! It was fun to get to know the other couples better, we had a blast!
We did some target practice... & no, he is not shooting me!
We drove home during the sweetest sunset I've ever seen. Seriously, it was breathtaking.
Last night, we went and bought pumpkins to carve! Taylor's was huge so big they couldn't weigh it. So they just charged us for 30 lbs. I didn't know what I was going to carve, so I just found an owl stencil to do. I had to keep it pretty basic because I'm not the best pumpkin carver & definitely not the most artistic person. Tay made a stencil of a picture of me! He does a lot of really cool art with spray paint & wood, but seeing something like it on a pumpkin is just incredible to me! He really is so talented. We had so much fun carving our pumpkins. His didn't even take him that long. I still can't believe he pulled it off.
My little owl.
The final product. Can you believe how real it looks?!
Last week, I was making a smoothie right before heading off to work. We only had a couple of strawberries left, so I decided to use our frozen peaches. They were all stuck together in a bag, so I used a butter knife to pry them apart. Then before I knew it the knife sliped through & into my skin. I had stabbed myself! I started bleeding super bad & I could not get the blood to slow down to see how bad it was. I called Taylor in a panic & finally was able to get a picture to send to him. I decided it wasn't so bad and I could just butterfly it together. Meanwhile, he had sent the picture to his dad, who said I need to come in to get stitches. If anyone knows me they know I am a big baby when it comes to anything that has to do with needles. Luckily Taylor had left work & drove me to his dad's clinic at the hospital & was with me the entire time. I think that was the biggest reason I didn't freak out more. In fact, I would say I did really good. ; ) So, two months of marriage and I've already had stitches. Taylor has made a great effort to keep all knives away from me. I think I am the only person who can stab themselves and get stitches with a butter knife. I am not going to post a picture of the original cut, because I don't think I can handle looking at it anymore. I got four stitches but one fell out. So now i'm left with three.
So thankful my father-in-law could stitch me up so nice & quick!
We had our wedding dinner the night before our wedding. It was in a backyard, catered pizza, & the prettiest twinkle lights. It was perfect & a party. Tay surprised me by singing me a song. It was the sweetest thing. Besides the bumpy camera work at parts & a guest appearance by my dad moving the mic, it was perfect. I tear up a little every time I watch it.
A few weeks ago, Taylor & I went to the Real Salt Lake soccer game with Tay's sister & her husband. We had front row seats, right behind the goal. at the beginning & randomly through out the game, the fans would throw streamers down onto the field. About halfway through the game, the Real's mascot, a lion, was carrying a huge pile of streamers that had been collected through out the game. As he was passing in front of us, he turns & jumps up the wall that is in front of us and starts shoving the streamers onto Taylor & me. It was the most hilariously confusing thing, & we were laughing so hard. The lion jumps down, & I pull out my phone to take a picture of Taylor with a giant pile of streamers on his lap. Right as I'm holding my phone up, Real scores, and all the fans jump up & start cheering. My phone was in the way of cheering hands so it got knocked out of my hand & the screen shattered.
I couldn't even be upset about it because it was the craziest couple of minutes ever. It is the funniest story, & with the help of apple care I was able to get a brand new phone to replace it. I still blame that lion, he's the one that started it all.
My 21st birthday was a success. It was spent in st. George with my love and my in-laws. I got to watch my sisters conquer a marathon (something that made me both really jealous & terrified to watch) then spent & the rest eating yummy mexican food, going to a movie, opening presents & eating cake. It was great relaxing and I feel so blessed to have had so many people wish me a happy day. It was my first birthday with my husband and he spoiled me to death. He brought me home surprises all week including lamps I had been wanting. I set a limit on the amount he could spend & told him I only want purfume that he likes the smell of. Of course he finds a way to make my gift amazing & gets me 10 samples of purfume so I can choose my favorite, order it, & it gets sent to my house. He's amazing and boy do I love him!
october is my favorite month, and not just because it's my birthday month, although that may have a lot to do with it. it's so beautiful with the trees changing colors, and the weather is so cool and perfect. taylor & i went on a hike to enjoy the weather and beautiful colors this past week. i am dying to go again before all the leaves are gone!
it wasn't our first choice for a honeymoon. but when my passport went missing the day before our wedding we weren't left with much of a choice. our perfect trip we had planned to cabo was not happening. Taylor's neighbor offered us his cabin in Idaho, and so off we went. at first i was still bummed and dreaming about the beach and the house we had rented in cabo. i felt horrible, guilty, and mad at myself. i didn't want to seem selfish but i couldn't help it.
while we were there, i fell in love with idaho. it was so peaceful and i felt like we were the only two people in the world. this taught me it doesn't matter where i am in the world, all i need is taylor and i'm completely happy. it's not about where i am or what i have, but who i'm with that matters.
we went fishing, motorcycling, and shot guns. this was never something i dreamed my honeymoon would be, but somehow it was more perfect than i could have imagined. we can now go back and visit the place of our honeymoon whenever we want, which i think is romantic. i'm glad i got to spend an incredible week with my love.
